THE ABENA GROUP
FROM SUPPLIER TO PARTNER
Abena started as a small supply business with a modest product range. These days Abena is a customer-centered business partner which develops, manufactures, and sells high-quality products within a broad range of areas.
The Abena Group was founded in 1953 by Jens Terp-Nielsen. Originally named Sækko A/S and based in Aabenraa, the company primarily sold jute bags to the farming industry. Over the years, Sækko A/S evolved into a trading company and in 1980 Sækko established its own factory for the production of diapers and sanitary napkins under the name Bambo. In the eighties, the company began exporting to more than 55 countries around the world.
The company changed its name to Abena in 2003 and currently employs around 1,300 people while offering a wide range of products covering packaging, waste systems, personal protective equipment, consumables, disposable items, and care products.
ABENA – A GLOBAL COMPANY
Today, the Group is represented by its own companies in Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands, France, the UK, and Poland. There are also a large number of distributors in Africa, the USA, Canada, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand as well as in a number of European countries. Abena is a family-owned group with a strong and inspiring corporate culture, where ethics, the environment, and good business acumen are paramount.
In connection with the company's 50th anniversary in 2003, we introduced a common logo for the group as a whole: A green leaf followed by the name Abena. The green leaf followed by the Abena name symbolizes the Abena Group's eco-friendly mindset. As of May 1, 2005, Sækko A/S was renamed Abena A/S.
OX-ON A/S is part of the Abena Group, which is based in Aabenraa and employs more than 1,800 people in 20 countries.
